The early history of Zion Lutheran Church of Juliaetta, Idaho is closely connected with the history of Lutheran families in this vicinity. Florian Schaupfer came from Steinmark, Austria to Juliaetta in the fall of 1883 with his wife and two children. The first Lutheran services in this community were held in a log school house on the Florian Schaupfer Homestead. These first services (1937) were conducted by Rev. Originally established as a special conference of the Pennsylvania Ministerium in 1812, the Joint Synod petitioned the ministerium to form an independent body in 1817, and in 1818 the first general conference of the synod was held in Somerset, Ohio.
