Jonathan Bourne was a native of New Bedford, Massachusetts and was educated at Harvard University. He came to Portland, Oregon in 1878 and practiced law for eight years. He became active in mine and real estate speculation and Republican politics. In 1885 and 1887 he was a member of the Oregon House of Representatives from Multnomah County, and from 1888 to 1892 a member of the Republican National Committee. Jonathan Bourne, Jr. (1855-1940) was an American politician, attorney, and businessman. A native of Massachusetts, he moved to Portland, Oregon, where he became a lawyer and an industrialist with holdings in mining, mills, and agriculture. His mine holdings were concentrated in Oregon and Idaho, Nevada, California and in the Republic Mining District and the Ruby Hill Mining District in Washington State.
