Whitworth College was founded officially on February 19, 1890. During the years 1987 and 1988 plans were made to celebrate its 100th anniversary. Of course, this celebration, all during the 1989 year, was an opportune time for a fund drive. (Timothy R. In 1921 a group of interested people living near Whitworth College in North Spokane, Washington met with the Reverend Bert Mitchell to form a mission Sunday school. Three years later W. A. Stevenson, President of Whitworth College invited the Sunday School to join in the newly formed college vesper services on the campus. Through these joint services the church was formed.
