Dr. Andrew Lawrence Markus was a professor of Japanese language and literature at the University of Washington with a special interest in the literature of the Late Edo period (1781-1867). Beginning in 1982, Markus taught for four years at the University of Kansas, although he did not become an assistant professor until he received his Ph.D. in 1985.
