Late in the 1800s, Mr. E. R. Brown donated a plot of ground at the corner of Peninsula and Kirkpatrick Streets as a site for a church. Rev. Dietrich conducted the first Lutheran service on the Peninsula, the date of which is not known. Some time later August Kenter, a retired pastor who lived in the area, was instrumental in petitioning young pastor C. F. W. Allwardt of St. Paul’s church of Portland to conduct the worship services.
