Eugene Starr (1901-1988)enjoyed a widespread reputation as a distinguished scientist and engineer.A 1923 graduate of Oregon Agricultural College, he achieved internationalrecognition for his work in the fields of electrical engineering andnuclear physics. In 1958 Starr was awarded the Department of theInterior's highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award, for his workwith the Bonneville Power Administration. Starr's papers include personalcorrespondence and scientific reports, with a focus on his work in nuclearfission and the transmission of high-voltage electricity.

Eugene Starr was born in 1901 in Falls City, Oregon. After graduating from Oregon Agricultural College (now Oregon State University) with a B.S. in engineering in 1923, he received his E.E. in 1938. He taught electrical engineering at Oregon State from 1927 until 1954. In 1954 he left the university to become chief engineer for the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) in Portland, Oregon.
