Alumnus and Poultry Science Professor, George H. Arscott, was born in Hilo, Hawaii, in July, 1923. Arscott graduated from Oregon State College with a B.S. in Poultry Husbandry in 1949. After earning a Ph. D in Poultry Nutrition from the University of Maryland in 1953, Arscott returned to OSC that same year to fill the position of Assistant Professor of Poultry Husbandry. On July 24, 1911, Oregon Agricultural College's Board of Regents organized the Oregon Extension Service in response to requests from citizens of Oregon for assistance (particularly in agriculture) from the college. The Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station was established under the provisions of the federal Hatch Act of 1887. Agricultural experimentation began at Oregon Agricultural College in 1888. In 1901 the first branch station was established at Union, in northeast Oregon, to address issues pertaining to the agriculture in that part of the state.
