Established in 1890 with nine members, the Board of Trustees is the governing body for Seattle Pacific University (formerly Seattle Seminary and Seattle Pacific College). Originally, all nine members were elected by the Washington Conference of the Free Methodist Church. By 1950, the Board had the authority to elect up to eight members. Charles Hoyt Watson served as the third president of Seattle Pacific College (now Seattle Pacific University). He was born in Kansas on December 12, 1888. He attended the University of Kansas and obtained a B.A. in 1918 and an M.A. in 1923. His presidential term at SPC lasted from 1926 to 1959, the longest of any president thus far.
