Richard E. Juday was born in Madison, Wisconsin, on May 28, 1918. His father was a professor of limnology at the University of Wisconsin. Like his father, Juday studied limnology. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Harvard University in 1939 and his doctorate degree in organic chemistry from the University of Wisconsin in 1943.
