Charles Mason MacDougall earned an Ed.D degree from Oregon State College in 1958, with a major in Education and minors in Industrial Arts (Industrial Education) and Fine Arts. His dissertation was titled Methods and Materials for Teaching Photography in the Secondary Schools.
