The World's Columbian Exposition, also known as the Chicago World’s Fair, was organized in celebration of the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s landing in America. Dorothy J. Weintz was a granddaughter of Asa S. Mercer, Seattle pioneer. Asa S. Mercer, in addition to being a pioneer in Seattle, was president of, and an instructor at, the University of Washington during its first term in 1863.
