Karl Vernon King was born on 27 October 1901, the son of Samuel Andrew and Maynetta Bagley King. He attended the University of Utah, Brigham Young University, and George Washington University before serving an LDS mission in Germany. He joined his father's law firm in 1930 and became a Salt Lake City judge in 1944.
