Edward D. Silver enrolled at Oregon State College in 1952 and earned a BS in science from Oregon State College in 1957; he was enrolled in the Navy ROTC program at Oregon State. After graduation, Silver joined the U.S. Air Force and served as a pilot instructor at Vance Air Force Base and in Saudia Arabia.
