The Alpha Social Club Minutes and Samuel Griffith Diary are the records of the establishment of an early Bozeman social club and the diary of a man who had moved to Illinois in the 1830s and then to Montana in the 1880s, respectively. These two documents, seemingly unrelated, were accessed as the contents of a single, standard business-style ledger book. The records for the Alpha Social club include a membership list and minute entries. The entries for the Samuel Griffith diary portion of the ledger include daily observations about the weather, important dates in his relationship with his wife, and comments on events which he determined to be important enough to record.
