Joel Grover papers 1857-1888

Joel Grover was born in Springfield, Livingston Co., New York, August 5, 1825; died in Lawrence, Kansas, July 28, 1879; he served as state government representative of District 26, Douglas County, Kansas, 1868-1869. This collection of his papers pertain mostly to Grover's work as commissioner and trustee of the school district, as well as his membership in a survey committee and alternate delegate of the 26th Destrict of the State of Kansas.

William Addison Phillips was born in Scotland on January 14, 1824. He was well educated before the age of 15. He came to a farm in Randolph County, Illinois with his parents. At the age of majority he became associated with B.J.F. Hannah, editor of the Chester Herald. From 1852 to 1855 William was a newspaperman who also studied law and was admitted to the bar.
