Letter to William Jerdan. after 1818

An unknown writer follows up on a discussion at a recent party at the Turners with William Jerdan (1782-1869), journalist and editor of the . The topic is the derivation of the theme of the "Crooked Billet", and its possible French origin. The writer also remarks on the use of pictorial signs to assist the uneducated populace in determining the type of business, product or service being offered.
