The Music School Student Files fill 49 record cartons and span the dates 1916-1960, with the bulk of the records dating from the late 1920s to the late 1940s. Records mostly consist of correspondence with students before and after their attendance at the School of Music. Many folders contain requests for transcripts of the student's coursework at Northwestern University, as well as transcripts from institutions the student attended prior to Northwestern that were part of his or her application process. Transcript requests date as late as the early 1970s. A number of folders from the earlier years contain a photograph of the student.
