History Department Student Papers and Examination Books 1973-1977

This series contains student papers and examination books from various History Department courses offered in 1968, 1969, 1971, 1973 and 1977. The bulk of the materials including examination books and papers written in lieu of final examinations are from the survey courses European Civilization, B01 and History of the United States, B10. The remainder of the materials includes papers, examinations, and course assignments from History C18, the United States Since the 1890s, and miscellaneous freshman, upperclass, and graduate seminars. The undergraduate papers and examination books are graded and span the range from academic excellence to failure, thereby documenting, contemporary evaluations of student examination performance, and writing abilities, as well as course content and pedagogy. The bulk of the graduate papers are from History D12, the Literature of Early American History and History D64, the Literature of English History of the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries.

During World War II, Northwestern offered its facilities for use by the War Department.
