Carl W. Condit (1942-1997) Papers 1942-1997

In 1945 Carl Wilbur Condit came to Northwestern University as an Instructor in English. He then went to the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh where he served as Assistant Professor of Humanities and Social Science until 1947. Then he returned to Northwestern where he remained on the faculty Condit's interests include the history of science and technology, the relation of humanistic values to technology and science and the human basis for modern technology. The Carl W. Condit Papers consist almost exclusively of manuscripts or typescripts of his publications. Also included is a copy of his unpublished PhD. dissertation; a bibliography of his publications, 1946-1977; and a small amount of material pertaining to one of his courses.

Carl Wilbur Condit was born in Cincinnati Ohio on September 29, 1914, the son of Arthur Thomas and Gertrude C. (Pletz) Condit. Condit received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1936, and an M.A. and a PhD. in English from the University of Cincinnati in 1939 and 1941 respectively.
