Investment Department Records 1927-1996

The first thirty boxes of this thirty-eight box series hold the Investment Department Records for Northwestern University. These records are divided into four general categories: Yearly Investment Portfolios, Monthly Investment Portfolios, Changes in the Investment Portfolios, and Gift Memos. The Yearly Investment Portfolios are included for the years 1927-1929, 1938-1940, 1942-1943, 1945-1952, 1963, 1967, and 1969. These reports typically include a bond portfolio, a classified list of investments, a real estate and mortgage portfolio, a listing of the investments in bonds and stocks, and a listing of sales contracts. Reconciliation Statements and Annual Investment Portfolios are included in the Yearly Investment Portfolios for 1953-1955. Monthly Investment Portfolios are included for the years 1958-1994. These reports were bounded together with the most recent report in the front of the binder. Therefore, for each year the months are arranged backwards from December to January. For 1958-1964, the reports include the following listings: Fixed Return, Variable Income Return, Cash, US Government Issues, Corporate Bonds (public utilities, railway equipment, industrials), General Funds, Endowment Funds, Canadian Issues, Preferred Stocks, and Shares.
