Smith, Lucy, 1775-1856

Lucy Mack Smith, born on July 8, 1775, in Gilsum, New Hampshipre, was the mother of the Mormon prophet Joseph Smith. She married Joseph Smith, Sr., in January 1796, and they eventually had ten children. Lucy Smith was actively involved in the founding of the Mormon Church, and also wrote the memoir Biographical sketches of Joseph Smith, the prophet, and his pregenitors for many generations (1853).
