The Workingmen’s Cooperative Publishing Association was a socialist organization affiliated with the Socialist Party of New York, and the governing board of , a socialist daily newspaper, published between 1908 and 1923, which was eventually prohibited from second-class mailing status by the Postmaster General of the United States for violating provisions of the Espionage Law in 1917. The collection consists of correspondence, by-laws, organizational papers and membership lists, and some printed material created by the Association and other Socialist organizations. The material largely relates to pubishing business matters, fund raising schemes, and staff and editorial difficulties. Most of the correspondence is that of financial secretary Julius Gerber. Other correspondents include W. J. Ghent and Algernon Lee. New York Call

Algernon Lee was a socialist, educator and New York City alderman. After attending the University of Minnesota in the early 1890s, Lee worked as a political organizer for the Socialist Labor Party and served as editor of several socialist publications. In 1909 Lee became the Director of Education at the Rand School of Social Science. He held this position until his death in 1954.
