AFSCME Printed Ephemera Collection 1937-2006

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Printed Ephemera Collection is an artificial collection, collected and assembled by the Tamiment Library over the course of several decades. AFSCME was founded in 1932 in Wisconsin as an organization of white collar workers who wanted to save the civil service system in their state. The organization quickly spread to the national level. The material in the collection ranges in date from 1937 to the present and is generated by the national and international bodies of the union as well as from a few of its District Councils and Locals, notably District Council 1707, the Community and Social Agency Employees. The collection is made up of contracts, agreements and constitutions as well as printed ephemera such as fliers, brochures, newspaper clippings, pamphlets and other publications.
