Wagar Space Collection 1945-1986

The collections of Howard Wagar represent his main collecting interest, the United States' space program, particularly the Apollo space missions, the lunar module landing, Skylab 1 and 2. The collection also includes materials from major world events that occured during the same time period. These events include the post-World War II testing of atomic bombs, the rise of Fidel Castro to power in Cuba, and the assassination of President Kennedy. These subjects were collected in the forms of periodicals, newspaper clippings, public relations materials, technical manuals, photographs and prints from the 1940's until the 1980's.

Howard Wagar was born in Fairmont, Minnesota in 1906, then moved to New Jersey in the 1920's, where he worked for WAAM radio station in Newark. He received his radio operators liscense in 1928 and worked as an operator for the merchant marines in various radio stations.
