Anne Spencer Morrow Lindbergh was born in Englewood, New Jersey on 22 June 1906, the daughter of ambassador and politician Dwight Morrow and author and Smith College president Elizabeth Cutter Morrow. From 1924-1928 Anne studied literature at Smith College, where she graduated in 1928 with a bachelor's degree in English. Charles Augustus Lindbergh (February 4, 1902 – August 26, 1974) was an American aviator, military officer, author, inventor, and activist. At the age of 25 in 1927, he went from obscurity as a U.S. Air Mail pilot to instantaneous world fame by winning the Orteig Prize for making a nonstop flight from New York City to Paris. Morrow (Smith College Class of 1935), wrote her senior thesis on Sir Kenelm Digby. After graduation she continued her interest in Digby and assembled a collection of books and manuscripts by him, as well as volumes from his own library. Morgan was a trustee of the college from 1956 to 1971 and served as chairman from 1967 to 1971. She died in 1995.
