George Kennan (1845-1924), American journalist and author, was best-known for his writings on Russia. In 1865 he was sent to Siberia as part of a surveying party to find a route for a telegraph line to connect Europe and America. Kennan traveled across Russia and wrote about his experiences in Tent Life in Siberia (1870).
