Courtlandt Palmer was born in 1871, to a wealthy New York family. Palmer studied music in Italy with Giovanni Sgambati, a student of Franz Liszt. Although Palmer was not well known, he was highly regarded by critics as well as by professional colleagues. His music was played in concert halls around New York City in the early twentieth century.
