Harry G. Schumer (1893-1971) was Orchestra Librarian of the Metropolitan Opera from 1938 to 1968. Chiefly informal backstage photographs of artists in costume taken during opera productions between 1945 and 1965. Some sight-seeing slides taken on tour are also included. About 500 persons have been identified as subjects, associated with productions of more than 60 different operas.
