Edward Warren Ordway (1864- ) was a New York City lawyer and political activist. He was secretary from 1899 to 1904 of the Anti-Imperialist League of New York (later the Philippine Independence Committee) and of the Filipino Progress Association which he formed in 1905. Jacob Epstein was born on 10 November 1880 in New York. While working in a bronze foundry, he studied sculptural modelling at evening classes. In 1902, he went to Paris to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and the Academie Julian. He moved to London in 1905, where he settled permanently, becoming a British subject in 1911. Among his major works is a figure of Christ in bronze, made during the First World War, which was bought by Apsley Cherry-Garrard. Epstein was knighted in 1954 and died in Lon...
