Mangles and Don Manoel logbook 1835-1836

This volume served as the logbook of two ships and contain entries made by Edward Roberts (3rd officer) from April 10, 1835-April 1, 1836. From April 10-November 13, 1835, Roberts kept the logbook on board the British convict ship "Mangles," commanded by Captain William Carr. The ship traveled from Deptford (part of London) to Portsmouth, continuing to Hobart, Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania), where a company of soldiers, convicts, and some of the passengers disembarked before the ship proceeded to Timor and Lombok, Dutch East India. The logbook lists passengers, crew, and prisoners Bound in the same volume is Roberts' logbook for the bark "Don Manoel," containing entries made from December 6, 1835-April 1, 1836 on a voyage from Lombok, Dutch East India to the vicinity of Lintin, China
