Palestine Economic Corporation records 1921-1944 1930-1938

The Palestine Economic Corporation (PEC) was organized in 1925 to facilitate investment in Palestine by American Jews and others interested in fostering the economic development and resettlement of the Jewish homeland. Bernard Flexner served as the company's first president and chairman of the board until 1944. The organization was subsequently known as PEC Israel Economic Corporation. Collection consists of correspondence, memoranda, minutes, reports, financial records, printed matter, maps, drawings, and photographs documenting activities of PEC and its subsidiaries. Subsidiaries include Central Bank of Cooperative Institutions in Palestine, Ltd.; Palestine Mortgage and Credit Bank, Ltd.; Loan Bank, Ltd.; Bayside Land Corporation, Ltd.; and Palestine Water Company, Ltd. Bulk of records is correspondence and memoranda relating to agricultural development, land development, housing, and the establishment of credit unions and cooperative societies in Palestine. Additional materials include minutes of meetings, annual and other reports, financial statements, loan applications, drawings, maps, photographs, clippings, and printed matter.
