Alfred Seelye Roe (1844-1917), of Worcester, Mass., had been a Union soldier in the Civil War and was active in the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) of Worcester. He was a teacher and the principal of Worcester High School from 1880 to 1890 and served as a state legislator from 1891 to 1898.
