Matthew Arnold, English poet, writer, and inspector of schools. His Essays in Criticism, Second series, includes analysis of such English Romantic figures as Wordsworth, Byron, Shelley and Keats. To Mr. Myhill : 1 autograph letter signed : 8 Aug 1883 : (MISC 1427) : reads in part: "I have just finished my Examination papers, but next week I must set to work at my American utterances -- not a holiday business by any means ..." Letter bears embossed stamp of the Education Department.
