Harold Foster Hallet was born in 1886, and was an engineering pupil at the work and shipyard of Messrs Young and Co at Poplar from 1904 to 1908, during which time he gained a BSc in Engineering from the University of London. In 1912 he gained an MA in Mental Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh, and went on to become a Lecturer in Logic, and Assistant in Logic and Metaphysics (1912-1916) and an Assistant in Moral Philosophy, 1915-1916.
