David Paton Cuthbertson was born in Kilmarnock in 1900 and educated at the University of Glasgow . He gained the qualifications BSc in 1921 ; MB ChB in 1926 ; DSc in 1931 ; and MD in 1937 . Cuthbertson became a clinical biochemist at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary from 1926-1934 and then a lecturer in physiological chemistry at the University of Glasgow between 1934-1945 . Sir David Paton Cuthbertson was born on 9 May 1900 , son of John Cuthbertson, MBE of Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. He was educated at the University of Glasgow where he graduated BSc 1921 , MB ChB 1926 , DSc 1931 and MD 1937 . He was 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Scots Fusiliers in 1919 before completing his education.
