After study at the London School of Economics, she returned to Girton as a Pfeiffer Research Fellow 1915-1918. She was Director of Studies in History at Girton 1913-1921, Lecturer 1921-1924, Reader 1924-1931. She was appointed Professor of Economic History at the London School of Economics in 1931, a position she held until her death in 1940. She lectured and published widely.
