Arthur Alexander Matheson was Emeritus Professor of Scots Law in the University of Dundee. He graduated MA with first-class honours in Classics, and LLB, with distinction, from the University of Edinburgh and became a Classical Exhibitioner at Balliol. He passed advocate in 1944. In 1949, at the age of 29, he was appointed to the newly instituted Chair of Scots Law in University College, Dundee and was the first Dean of the Faculty of Law, created in 1955.
