The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, was founded in 1599 by a Royal Charter which was granted to Peter Lowe (c 1550-1612), a surgeon who trained in France, and Robert Hamilton, Professor of Medicine, by King James VI (1566-1625). William Reid gained his medical qualifications, MB ChB Glasgow, in 1933. Now retired, he was formerly Consultant Surgeon at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
