Charles Maurice Yonge (known as Maurice) was born in Yorkshire in 1899 and was educated at Silcoates School in Wakefield. Following his time in the army between 1917-1918, Yonge read history at Oxford. However, this was only for a short period as he transferred to the University of Edinburgh in 1919 where he enrolled as a Baxter Natural Science Scholar. On 16 July 1928, the world's first detailed scientific study of coral reef took place on Low Isles. The European expedition party, led by Dr C. M. Yonge, aimed to study the life processes of coral and of the formation and maintenance of reef. The Expedition left the Isles on 28 July 1929. These are Economic History lecture notes, possibly a lecturer's own notes. There are 6 notebooks within a slipcase. On the slipcase is written in pencil "Dr James Cunnison? Alec Macfie?" The identification of the author of these notes is not certain. There is one letter within volume 6 addressed to Dr Cunnison, but without a comparison of handwriting it has not possible to assign these notes to Dr Cunnison.
