Lobegott Friedrich Constantin von Tischendorf 1815-1874, orientalist and biblical critic, was born in Legenfeld near Leipzig, Germany, on 18 January 1815 . He was educated at the Plauen Gymnasium (grammar school) in Plauen, Germany, and at the University of Leipzig, where he studied theology, specialising in the New Testament. Tischendorf was a German biblical critic. Caspar René Gregory was an American biblical scholar and professor at the University of Leipzig.
