This branch of the family was in existence in the thirteenth century and the property is known to have passed to the Stirlings of Keir in the sixteenth century, subsequent to the marriage of the daughter and heiress of Andrew Stirling of Cadder who died in 1522 to James Stirling, eldest son of Sir John Stirling of Keir.
