Wilfrid Philip Ward was a British author and catholic apologist. He was born on January 2, 1856 in Hertfordshire, the son of William George Ward and Frances (Wingfield) Ward. He began his education at the Gregorian University, but, realizing the priesthood was not his vocation, moved to Upshaw College. Herbert Alfred Vaughan, Cardinal and Archbishop of Westminster, was born in Gloucester in 1832.
