The St Joseph's Foreign Missionary Society (Mill Hill Missionaries) was founded at Mill Hill in 1866 by Father Herbert Vaughan (1832-1903). Herbert Alfred Vaughan, Cardinal and Archbishop of Westminster, was born in Gloucester in 1832. Vaughan attended Jesuit College at Stonyhurst from 1841 to 1847, followed by another three years of study in Belgium.
