William Ewart Gladstone, prime minister and author, was born in Liverpool, on Dec. 29, 1809; the fifth child and youngest son of Sir John Gladstone and Anne Mackenzie Gladstone. He was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford, in preparation for a future in the British political world. He married Catherine Glynne, whom he met in Rome, in 1839, and together they had eight children. W.E. Gladstone was born in 1809, the son of Sir John Gladstone and his wife Anne Mackenzie Robertson. He was educated at Eton and Oxford and he married Catherine Glynne in 1839, daughter of Sir Stephen Glynne of Hawarden Castle, Flintshire. They had four sons and four daughters.
