Ernest Kilburn Scott (1868-1941), was born in Leeds and educated at the Yorkshire College, later the University of Leeds. He worked in the family textile machine business, R. Kilburn and Sons, and then for a number of engineering companies. He also lectured on engineering, including an appointment, in 1904, in charge of the electrical engineering department at the University of Sydney.
