Sir Leslie Orme Wilson, soldier, politician and governor, was born in London in 1876. He became a soldier in the Royal Marine Light Infantry, and progressed to Captain in 1901. He was awarded the Queen's Medal with 5 clasps and the Distinguished Service Order after being wounded in the South African war.
