Patrick Keohane was born in County Cork, Ireland in 1879. He enlisted in the Royal Navy, reaching the rank of petty officer when he joined the British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-1913 (leader Robert Falcon Scott). Taking part in many sledging journeys; he was a member of the support party that accompanied the polar party as far as the upper depot on the Beardmore Glacier in December 1911.
