Edward Carr Glyn was born on 21 November 1843 in London. He was educated at Harrow and University College, Oxford. In 1868, he was ordained and served as curate of Doncaster before taking up an appointment as domestic chaplain to the Archbishop of York in 1871. He served as a vicar in Beverley, Doncaster and Kensington from 1872 until 1897, when he was appointed bishop of Peterborough, holding the see until 1916. He died on 14 November 1928.
