Antoni Boleslaw Dobrowolski was born in 1872 in Poland. He was educated in physical sciences at the universities of Zrich and Lige. In 1897, he joined the Belgian Antarctic Expedition, 1897-1899 (leader Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery), as assistant meteorologist.
