Hector Munro Chadwick (1870-1947), Anglo-Saxon scholar and historian, was born at Thornhill Lees, Yorkshire, on 22 October 1870. He attended grammar schools in Bradford, 1882-1883, and Wakefield, 1885-1889, before entering Clare College, Cambridge, in 1889. He became a Fellow of Clare in 1893, and was librarian, 1903-1911. Chadwick was Cambridge University lecturer in Scandinavian, 1910-1912, and Professor of Anglo-Saxon, 1912-1941. He married Nora Chadwick in 1922. He died in Cambr...
